Why being in Waddon matters
JM Glass & Glazing is Jason Marchant's firm. The address at the bottom of this site (24 Waddon Close, Croydon CR0 4JT), is a real address in Waddon, not a mail drop with a diverted number behind it. Most of the work we do is within a few miles of it.
Over 30 years in the trade
That is Jason's own count, and it goes back a long way before the firm had a name on the side of a van. He served his time as a glazier and has never done anything else. It is worth saying plainly what that does and doesn't buy you. It means an opening that isn't square doesn't surprise us. It means we know when a pane has to be laminated rather than toughened, and when a door needs 6mm rather than 4mm because of the way it slams. It does not mean we can price a job down the phone without seeing it, and anyone who says they can is guessing.
Two ends of the same trade
Most glazing firms sit at one end or the other. The fast end is boarding up, misted units, and a door pane that a delivery driver has put a trolley through. The slow end is frameless shower screens, glass balustrades, mirrors cut to a template and coloured splashbacks. The two need different habits, which is why firms usually pick one.
We do both. A balustrade can take weeks between the survey and the fit, because toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled once it has been through the furnace: every hole, notch and radius goes in beforehand, so the template has to be right first time. An emergency board-up is measured in hours. Running both ends means the firm that made your stairs safe in April is the same one you ring when the front door pane goes in November, and you don't have to explain the house twice.
Installation of the Month, July 2025
Edge Building Products, who make the aluminium glazing bar systems, chose one of our jobs as their Installation of the Month for July 2025. It was a roof light refurbishment: 44 shaped double-glazed units fitted into Edge 50mm capped aluminium glazing bars. Shaped units are the awkward kind. None of them are rectangles, so each one is templated and ordered on its own, and there is no trimming them to fit when they turn up.
That is a supplier feature rather than a qualification, and we would rather say so than dress it up as something else. But it is a manufacturer looking at finished work and deciding to put their own name next to it, which is not nothing.
The names on the reviews
We are 5.0 on Google. Read a few and you will see Jason, Ray and Craig come up by name, which tells you more about how the firm runs than an About page can. It is a small outfit. What we do and don't claim
Plenty of glazing sites are wallpapered in badges. We would rather just list what we actually do. We are not registered with FENSA or CERTASS, so we cannot self-certify replacement windows and doors under Building Regulations. That has no bearing on glass replacement, misted unit swaps, shower screens, balustrades, mirrors or splashbacks, which is the bulk of the work. If a job you are planning does need certifying, we will tell you at the survey rather than halfway through.

Waddon sits between the Purley Way and West Croydon, a few minutes from the town centre and a straight run out to Sutton, Purley and Coulsdon. That matters more than it sounds. Glazing is full of two-visit and three-visit jobs (measure, then order, then fit), and a firm driving in from another county has to price every one of those journeys into a small repair. Being close is why we will take on the jobs that aren't worth anyone else's diesel, and why coming back to swap a unit that arrived with a scratch on it is a short trip rather than an argument.
The housing round here shapes the work too. Croydon and Waddon are largely interwar semis and thirties bays, with steel windows still sitting in plenty of back bedrooms and a great deal of first-generation double glazing now failing at the seals. Head south through Sanderstead, Kenley and Woldingham and the houses get bigger, with more leaded lights, more conservatories and more roof glazing. Both ends of that keep us busy.
